The COFY coalition held its 4th and final Teen Expo in March 2007. Each year, the event boasted Nationally Known Keynote speakers and a host of workshops put on by area experts. However due to funding cuts and modifications in moving the community forward, the Expo will serve as a great memory for area youth. This one day conference for area youth ages 15-19 helped them focus on their post high school age years.

Statistics show that, there is a big problem with the consumption of alcohol by the youth in our community. Heavy drinking and thoughts of 'drinking just to get drunk' are becoming more common every day. While our youth are very influenced by what they see and hear through our media, they are more influenced by their peers and parents.
To help combat this problem the local SADD Organization and MADD Chapter, in cooperation with an Underage Drinking Laws Enforcement Program (EUDL) has continued to expand its outreach and combat this problem head on. Community Connections Hosts TWO State Associations!!!
In an effort to help reach across borders with prevention efforts, Community Connections Drug Free Program has obtained funding to start TWO State Associations! Each, although unique in scope, will work with new and existing coalitions throughout the state to help fight problems with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
MERCER and MONROE COUNTIES ONCE AGAIN NAMED ONE OF AMERICA'S PROMISE 100 BEST!!
In 2005, 2007, and now in 2008, America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth announced that Mercer County, WV is a winner of its annual national competition to identify 100 Best Communities for Young People. The winning communities ranged from small towns to urban neighborhoods across America and celebrated commitment to provide healthy, safe and caring environments for young people.
For the second year in a row, Mercer was joined by its sister County to the East, Monroe.

The ESPN Radio Drug Free All - Stars are continuing thier tour of Mercer County and surrounding areas by taking on the staff of area schools. This group of hoopsters consists of local businesses, organizations and agencies working to promote the "What's Your Anti-Drug?" message to area youth.
